Workshop 4

The challenges of digital multimedia archiving in Flanders

The workshop will present several issues related to the development of a sustainable service for digital multimedia archiving in Flanders: more specifically the research results of the project 'BOM-vl' (Preservation and access of multimedia data in Flanders, 2008-2009) (http://www.bom-vl.be) and the (future) project 'Archipel' (Network-centric approach to sustainable digital archives, 2010-2011). In these projects research is conducted into several aspects of digital multimedia archiving, and into strategic issues and challenges for the next years in the field of long term archiving and access of multimedia. This research is done by a consortium of university research groups (IBBT), private companies,  heritage institutions and cultural organizations, with the support of the Flemish Government.

The workshop is organized in collaboration between the IBBT (www.ibbt.be/en), Ghent University (www.ugent.be), The Flemish Theatre Institute (VTi) (www.vti.be), and FARO. Flemish interface centre for cultural heritage (www.faronet.be).
