Pre-conference RijksmuseumPreconference Rijksmusem, Amsterdam
Open access to a closed museum
From 2003 - 2013 the Rijkmuseum faces the largest renovation, reconstruction and restoration to date. The Rijksmuseum uses this intense period to present its collections in new ways to as large an audience as possible. Closure of the physical museum building continuously inspires the “Rijks” to explore and develop new ways to connect collections and audience. The ultimate aim is to establish a 24/7 Rijksmuseum without borders: the Rijksmuseum online.
A Rijksmuseum online that tells the contextualized story of Dutch history and culture in dependent of your time and place. A Rijksmuseum online that contributes to the visibility of Dutch culture in virtual national and international communities and that opens the minds of driven researchers and wandering tourists alike.
